Research and Planning: colour scheme
Red, black and white are my colours I've chosen for my magazine, they are iconic colours for the rock genre.

Research and Planning: model head shots
The girl in this picture would suit more of a alternative magazine rather than my rock magazine.
I think the girl in this picture is a great example of the type of girl I'm looking for, for my contents page. The silly pose looks good and makes the magazine more interesting rather than all serious pictures.
The guy on this picture is the perfect person for my magazine, I'm going to use him for part of my magazine I think. I like his pose on this picture too.
On this picture, my model looks too happy for my magazine. He doesn't look like my target audience and I don't think my target audience would buy the magazine if he was on the front cover.
My model in this picture looks like my target audience and would look good on my magazine, maybe because of the stubble and darker hair
The girls on the right of this photo don't match my genre, but the girl on the left would look good with the appropriate clothing, hairstyle, makeup and pose.
The girl on this photo is the perfect look for my magazine, and I definitely want her in some part of it. I love her pose, makeup and hair. I think she will appeal to my audience.
This photo is me, therefor wouldn't work in my magazine. I don't think I have the 'right look' for a rock magazine anyway.

This picture is another picture of a girl from before, she is now doing a serious pose, I think both poses look good and I will have to do more head shots of her to see which she suits more.

Research and Planning: model poses.
for this post, I'm going to focus on one rock band. I'm going to look at all the different poses they do during different photo shoots.
this picture is one of the only pictures in colour, they have used a mid shot in this picture, and the pose is quite serious.
In this picture, there has been a blue int added to it and a masthead, I'm not looking to use a picture like this, with these effects but I like the light-hearted pose in the picture, making the reader warm to the band instantly
This picture is in black and white which I like, but I think the black and white puts a serious edge to the picture. They have used a long shot which I like and the pose is more serious. In context, I think the prop looks good, in my photo shoot, I could replace the baseball bat with a guitar.
This is a medium close up of the lead singer. I want my lead singer to stand out in my pose, I could maybe have my lead singer doing a more eye catching pose than the other band members.
I love the use of props in this photograph. It gives the serious pose a light hearted feel and is interesting to look at.
This less serious pose makes readers instantly warm to the band, making it a great front cover.
- In my photo shoot, I'm going to take a few pictures of different poses and in the end choose the best one. At the moment I want to use a less serious pose with a few funny faces to make my magazine stand out.

Research and Planning: Plan For The Week
This week I need to do the following things.
-print out my model release forms and look for definite models.
-take head shots of possible people.
-look into different poses that my models could do.
-view different locations for my photoshoot

planning and research: makeup
All my models are going to be male for my magazine, so I think I'm going to ask a few of them to wear makeup. I'll take some makeup with me and do it for them before the photo shoot.

research and planning: SLR Camera shots
Inside Shots
In this shot, Bethan did a serious pose, I told her to do this because I wanted to do a close up, I think the picture looks really good because its quite clear. Her face is really clear in comparison to the background, I think this looks good. To make it better, i would make sure the background looked better.
In this picture, Danny is doing more of a fun pose. I made this a medium-long shot because he was sat on the stairs, so I wanted some of the background to be involved. I think this is quite clear yet again and would be a good picture for my magazine.
Outside Shots
In this picture, Bethan is again doing a serious pose, but this time I used a mid shot to make it look more realistic. I don't think this picture of Bethan is quite as good as the one of her inside as the colours aren't as sharp.
I really like this photo as I think the colour is bright and its a really clear picture. It's a medium long shot and Karishma is in the background.

Planning & Research: mise-en-scene
For my front cover, I want the setting to be in a woods I think. I like both of these pictures, I think when I take the photo's, I'm going to try them in normal colour and in black and white, to see which looks better for my genre of music.
I like this setting because its a woods, which is what i wanted, but there is a river running through, making it look better and more interesting.
I went on to Google maps and screen grabbed 2 different places that I think may look good for my picture
planning & research: Plan for the week
This week there is a number of things I need to do, including finishing and expanding posts.
I also need to find models for my magazine and a setting for my photo to take place.
For my setting, I think I want to take a picture in the woods somewhere, maybe near a lake.
This week I'm going to learn how to use an SLR camera and do some test shots ready for my magazine photoshoot.

research and planning: Model appearance.
When taking pictures for my magazine, i will need to find people to suit my magazine. At first, i thought it would be good to have 3 Males in the picture, After thinking about it, I think I want to use more than 3. Maybe 4 or 5. Here are some pictures of friends I might use, and who will look good.
In this picture, Josh has long hair which appeals to the rock audience. He has piercings and tattoo's, which look good making him perfect for my magazine. His pose isn't too serious as he is smiling. I'm not sure what poses I want my models to do yet, I will have to do some more research.
In this picture, Karl has long hair, I want the people in my finished pictures to have long hair like his. The effect on this picture is good where the saturation has been turned up, I will deffinatly contentplate this for my setting, I like the idea of tree's or maybe woods. This time, his pose is more serious, which is effective, I think he looks to calm and friendly though.
Jake has black, long hair in this picture, this makes him look like the typical candidate for a 'rock band'. I like the close up of this picture but I don't think it would be practicle for my front cover as there will be a few other people who need to be in the picture. The picture is more serious which looks good, and interesting to look at.
Haydn has long black hair like Jake, but in this picture he has lip piercings, I think piercings would look good in my pictures as the audience for my rock magazine would look simelar. Like Jake, his pose is more serious making it look more proffesional.
This picture of Craig is really good, I think the side on pose is effective and would look good for one of my models to do in the band picture. His hair is long and died, this will appeal to rock lovers in my opinion. The top he is wearing would look good on my front cover too.
In this picture, Zak is doing a less serious pose which looks really good. I think when it comes to my photography work, I will include poses like this. The tilted picture looks good, making it not look as neat. His hair is long and looks good, and he has a nose piercing too. He would look really good on the front cover on my magazine.

research and planning: bands and artists
I asked 10 people in my class which where there favorite rock bands, these are my results along with a short analysis of each band/artist.
2 people in my class said that Youmeatsix were there favorite band. This picture is good of the band. It isn't a serious picture, making the band seem fun.
Enter Shikari was another band mentioned. This picture is another picture that isn't serious. They use sweets as props as well.
Florence and the Machine is more of a indie-rock artist, and I'm not featuring that in my magazine. The picture is effective though. The serious pose is effective and she uses glitter as part of her outfit making it stand out.
The Killers was also chosen. This picture is great, I love the setting, its eye catching and looks great. The use of the K prop is effective too.
Young Guns is a rock band which was chosen in my survey. This picture is good as the background and props are very minimal making the band stand out more. The serious pose looks good, there genre is very clear.
Muse is a popular rock band. The picture is good and catches the readers eye despite the picture being in black and white.
This picture of Fall Out Boy is a good picture. They use a rage of emotions and the shadowing in the picture is effective. They all have props, which may be seen as too much. But I think it looks good.
This picture of Kasabian is effective. All 4 members of the band is featured in the picture, all in different ways. Its a serious photo, but fun to look at because of the use of props (mirror and chair)
I think this picture of The Heavy, which was also chosen in the survey, is the least professional of them all. The saturation of the picture is too high making the quality low. The use of props, although, is good.
